About this beach

Jones Beach State Park is Robert Moses's signature 1929 work — 6.5 miles of Atlantic frontage backed by an art-deco bathhouse, the central concession mall, and the iconic 200-foot WPA water tower. The Jones Beach Theater and Boardwalk Field stage summer concerts; the bandshell hosts free concerts most weekends.

Parking is $10 per car in season; no transit access (you need a car or the seasonal Long Island Bus N88 from Freeport LIRR). Fields 1, 2, and 6 are the most popular swim sections; Field 6's eastern stretch tends to be quieter through the morning.

Wave height and water temperature on this page are read from NDBC buoy 44065; tide times come from the NOAA CO-OPS Jones Inlet station 8516385. The long-term monthly mean water temperature for this stretch of coast is 73°F (NDBC 44065 climatology); the current reading sits 2.0° above average.
